At the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogotá, a StirLIN-1 Compact liquid nitrogen system has been installed to supply liquid nitrogen on-site, producing about 10 liters per hour.
Instead of relying on external deliveries, the university can now generate its own nitrogen as needed.
The system supports a range of academic and research activities, mainly:
• Cryogenic storage of biological materials like cells, tissues, blood, reproductive samples, and other specimens
• Laboratory work in physics, chemistry, and engineering
• Teaching labs where low-temperature experiments are demonstrated
• Various research projects that require controlled cryogenic conditions
In practice, this means professors, students, researchers, and even external users can access liquid nitrogen more reliably for their work. It’s especially useful in a university setting because demand can fluctuate a lot between departments, and having local production helps avoid delays or shortages.
